EUROPEAN TOUR MANAGEMENT CERTIFICATE
IATM has produced new certificates for use by Tour Managers working in Europe. There are now two versions of the certificate.
The Tour Manager’s Certificate (TMC) is issued to those who are citizens of non-EU States, or are citizens or residents of EU States where guiding is a restricted activity. The wording on this certificate is similar to that used on previous issues of the TMC and asserts the right of the bearer to work as a Tour Manager as a business visitor conducting ‘a closed circuit tour’.
Tour Managers who are both citizens and residents of EU States where guiding is not a restricted activity are issued with a Tour Guide’s Certificate (TGC). This certificate states the right under EU law for the bearer to ‘deliver a detailed cultural commentary’ on the basis that such activity is not restricted or regulated in their home country.
To clarify, a member who is resident in a country where tour guiding is a restricted activity is only entitled to the TMC, not the TGC, regardless of his/her nationality. For example, a UK citizen resident in the UK (where tour guiding is not a restricted activity) is entitled to the TGC, but a UK citizen resident in Italy is only entitled to the TMC.
